In early 2026 a gunman authorities say was inspired by Hezbollah attempted an attack on a synagogue in Michigan. Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who is Jewish, publicly criticized her party's Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed over his initial response to that attack.
