Understand the matterhear it before you weigh it

“He who answers a matter before he hears it—this is folly and disgrace to him.”

Proverbs 18:13 (BSB)

Israeli forces demolished homes in Hebron's Ein Deir Baha district after a Friday checkpoint attack killed two Israeli soldiers and two Palestinian gunmen. Netanyahu and Smotrich visited the site four days before elections and vowed to destroy the area. Hebron's municipality says hundreds of uninvolved families were evicted.

In dispute: Is the demolition a justified security response or unlawful collective punishment?

Smotrich says the demolitions target illegal structures near the attack site as a security measure against militants. (moral) Activist Issa Amro argues the destruction punishes families with no connection to the attack. (moral)

In dispute: Does the operation's scale reflect military necessity or election politics?

Smotrich frames the campaign as necessary counterterrorism, comparing it to operations in Gaza and Lebanon. (prudential) Amro says he cannot tell whether this is a political tactic before the election or a lasting plan. (moral)
